This card has appeared in twelve different MTG sets, so I think it’s safe to say that sword walls aren’t just one-offs in the MTG Multiverse. Aside from the fact that these aren’t exactly rarities, I think their existence raises a rather obvious and disturbing question, namely: Why exactly did the builders of the Wall of Swords think that a wall of swords would be necessary? And the possible answers to that are…well…not great. Either they were crazy, or they’re not very nice and are planning to hurt people with them, or there is something big and nasty out there that inspired them to build a sword wall for protection. None of these options makes me feel good.
